Do You Respond with "YES" or "WHY NOT"?

When Your "Why Not" is Bigger than Your "Why"

I have the privilege to work with some amazing people. They have great jobs, great minds and huge hearts. They are wonderful to laugh with, great to work with and up to big things in this world.

But sometimes life gets in the way.
That's true for everyone. There is a big project a work, a health challenge with a loved one, a degree to finish.

The problem is when your reasons take over and become the reason you fail. You don't think that's what is happening. You think that what is happening is that you are very busy and important and your life NEEDs you.

If this is happening to you, then your WHY is not big enough. If you have ever attended a seminar for entrepreneurs, then you have been trained on the importance of having your WHY figured out. The problem is, no matter how many times you have received this training, your WHY can be quite elusive.  I can tell you that it's not going to be about money. It won't be about lifestyle or the stuff that fills it. Your WHY is closer to your PURPOSE, your LEGACY, your SOUL GIFT.

Many of us are too busy with the WHY NOTs to even uncover our WHY. Here are some of the most common WHY NOTs that I hear:
  1. I can't attend the event...I have to work late. I get it - your paycheck pays your bills. I would NEVER tell you that you should do less than you are paid for. You agreed to work a job and should put in an honest day's work for the pay you receive. But what about the person that always seems to have an important project they have to stay late for that results in missing the events that would further their business goals? Are you fulfilling your responsibilities or are you using work as an excuse to avoid your life's work?
  2. I can't make the training...I have to take my mother/father/son/daughter to their doctor/dance class/driving lesson. Sometimes it's hard to see the forest through the trees. Our family needs us. They need us to be there for them...time is precious and you will never get it back. But I can tell you countless stories of very successful millionaire friends of mine that have missed a couple of big things for a finite time so they could NEVER MISS EVEN THE SMALL THINGS. Family is prescious and should never be taken for granted. But what about the person that is so busy doing things for family that they can never find time to build a legacy that will support their family for generations and beyond? Don't let the small things get in the way of providing for the big things.
  3. I can't participate in the business meeting...I don't have the money. Times are tough for a lot of people. Money doesn't grow on trees. You have to spend money to make money. Money can't buy happiness. There are lots of cliches about money but here's the truth. If you live from a place of NOT having money to create your legacy, then you will NEVER HAVE MONEY TO DO ANYTHING. Because how you do ANYTHING is how you do EVERYTHING. So instead of telling yourself you don't have the money, ask yourself - how can I create more money today?
So - go out there and declare your WHY! And when life brings you opportunities, respond with YES instead of WHY NOT!

Will you share your WHY with me?
